Bali and Lombok are two islands that located in Indonesia. This both island are very popular and many tourists like to go there because they have a very beautiful panorama that can make us fell fresh. These islands have some similarities and differences although their location is nearby. The three main differences between these interesting islands are geographic position, culture and vacation place.

The geographic position of Bali and Lombok are not so different because their position is nearby. Bali is a small town that located in eastern Indonesia; the geographical location is in the Pacific Ocean, just below the equatorial line on latitude 8 south and longitude 115 east. Bali measures 5,632 square kilometers (2,175 square miles) and is 90 kilometers high and about 140 kilometers wide. The island is famous for its beautiful landscape, featuring a chain of 6 volcanoes from west to east. The volcanoes reach heights of 3,150 meters. Lush tropical forests, pristine crater lakes, fast flowing rivers and deep ravines, picturesque rice terraces, as well as fertile vegetable and fruit gardens dominate the scenery. Pleasant day temperatures between 20 -33 C along the year and make Bali an ideal tropical holiday destination. From December to March, the west monsoon can bring heavy showers and high humidity, but usually days are sunny and the rains start during the night and pass quickly. From June to September the humidity is low, and it is pleasantly cool in the evenings with hardly rain in the coastal areas. However, in Ubud area, the mountains surrounded by cloudy skies and showers throughout the year (this is the reason why the international weather reports Bali full of showers and rain storms year-round). In higher regions such as in Bedugul or Kintamani, either a sweater or jacket might be needed after the sun sets. However, Lombok is located in Nusa Tenggara Barat, eastern Indonesia. Lombok measures 20.153,15 km2. Lombok also has a famous mount, the name is Rinjani Mountain, pleasant day temperature of this mountain around 23-30 C in average. The similarity between these two islands is, they have tropical temperature and make many tourists enjoy their vocation in the beach. Lombok has tropical climate with average temperature ranging between 28°C and 34°C. There are two main seasons: wet (from October to April) and dry (from May to September). The best time to visit Lombok is surprisingly during the rainy season (October - April) when humidity decreases and the landscape is lush and green. The dry season (May-September) can be particularly hot and dusty.

These two famous islands also have different culture although their location is nearby. Hindu Dharma is held by almost 95 % of the population. Its teaching is to reach peace and harmony of life guided by the Wreda as Holy Scriptures. They believe in One Supreme God called Ida Sanghyang Widhi Wasa, with His three manifestations known as Trisakti that is Brahma – the Creator; Wisnu – the Preserver, and Siwa – the Transformer. Frequent religious festivals are plenty. mentioned should be: The Odalan Festival (anniversary of a temple's founding), Melasti (religious purification), Nyepi (marks the beginning of a new lunar year late March or early April), Galungan (celebrates the creation of our world and Bali's most significant annual event), Kuningan (commemorates the end of the holiday season), Eka Dasa Rudra is the island's most important festival and is originally held every hundred years (the restoration of balance between good and evil). Whereas, in Lombok many people held Sasak Moslem, except in west Lombok; they are Hinduism. Near the beach are several Sasak villages where the native Sasak people live. Their ancestors migrated to the island from the ancient Hindu Majapahit Kingdom in East Java at the end of the 14th century. Though the majority of the Sasak today are Moslems, anthropologists have noted that their language, songs, and dances show a strong link with the Hindu and Buddhist cultures that once dominated the Indonesian archipelago. The Sasak people are among one of the many underdeveloped groups in Indonesia. Not many adults can speak the national language, Indonesian language. The majority of them are wet-rice farmers, though in some villages, many work as pottery makers.

Bali and Lombok have many differences in their position and culture, but they have same beautiful panoramas and friendly people. There are many famous vacation places in Bali; such as Kuta beach, Bedugul, Sanur beach, Tanah Lot, Sukawati Market, Bali National Park, etc. That all places are often visited by the tourists because they have a nice nature and good place that can make the visitors enjoy their vacation. Not only that, but also Bali has unique dance, ritual and art place which the tourists can see and visit that place. Lombok is also has many beautiful places, such as Gill Sulat and Gill Kondo beach, Rinjani Mountain, Museum Nusa Tenggara Barat, Narmada Park, Senggigi beach, etc. Lombok also has a unique traditional hand waving Course in Bayan, Sembalun, Pringgesele, and Sukarara; visitors can visit that place and have a hand waving course.

Bali and Lombok are two interesting places to visit in Indonesia. The differences between geographic position, culture and vacation place, make us know that these islands enrich Indonesia. Many tourists from another country fell curious with them and want to go there; we as Indonesian people should appreciate our islands and visit them to know more about our beautiful country.
